A named, licensed guide and a written quote before you pay, with every cost on its own line.
Booking platforms sell a set tour with instant checkout. With us there is no booking engine and no instant checkout, on purpose: a private day starts with a conversation.
Your dates, who is coming, and anything that shapes the pace. You do not need to know what you want yet.
We reply within a day with a route for that day and the name of the licensed guide we would send.
Almost nobody accepts the first plan as written. There is no deposit until you are happy with the plan.
We hold the guide and any vehicle for your dates. Your guide meets you in the lobby at the time you agreed.
From there, tickets, ferries and timing are ours to sort.
Every day is quoted on its own. You will see entrance tickets, transport and meals as separate lines.
| In your quote | What sets it | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Your guide’s day | The length of the day, the language you need and how senior the guide is | A private day usually runs about eight hours and starts where you are staying. |
| Entrance tickets | The sites you choose | This year’s fees for each major site are on our entrance fees page. |
| Your guide’s entry | Each site’s own rules | Licensed guides wearing their badge enter Topkapı, its Harem and Dolmabahçe free, and pass the Ministry’s museum turnstiles on a guide card of their own. |
| A car and driver | Whether you want a private van and driver | Plenty of Istanbul days are better walked. Some are not. |
| Ferries and trams | The route | Your guide handles tickets, ferries and timing so you do not have to. |
| Meals | Where you stop | Somewhere in the middle you stop and eat, properly, sitting down. |
Guiding without a Ministry licence is an offence under Law 6326, and the provincial governor issues the fine. Every guide we send holds a valid TUREB professional tour guide licence.
Türkiye’s 2024 guiding regulation has a working guide wear the work card at chest height, where you can see it. Ours carry it, and a licensed guide will not mind being asked to show it.
TUREB’s public database shows any guide’s chamber, languages and status by name. We name the guide in the reply rather than assigning someone on the morning.
The Ministry’s agency register shows any licence number and whether it is valid. Ours is 7651, registered to Before Travel, an A-group agency in Istanbul.
Istanbul’s chamber of guides has 3,815 registered for English and 25 for Korean. The rarer the language, the earlier you should ask, so name it in your first message.
| Language | Istanbul | Scale | All of Türkiye |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | 3,815 | 7,480 | |
| Spanish | 701 | 1,044 | |
| French | 619 | 813 | |
| German | 510 | 1,140 | |
| Japanese | 362 | 420 | |
| Russian | 348 | 905 | |
| Arabic | 347 | 453 | |

Tell us the preference when you write and we match to it rather than hoping it works out, or filter the directory by language yourself.
Search any of the four by name on TUREB’s database and you will find them in the Istanbul chamber, marked active, with these languages.

Our cancellation terms depend on how the booking was secured, and they are set out in full in the terms and conditions. Read that section before you confirm, not after.
Weather is not a cancellation. Istanbul days run in the rain, and a guide who knows the city simply moves the indoor parts of the route forward.
Change the plan as you go. The only limits are a timed entry you have already booked and a site that closes at a fixed hour. If something genuinely goes wrong, you have a direct line to a person rather than a support form.
Booking platforms and guide marketplaces sell set tours online. With The Other Tour you send your dates and who is coming, and we reply within a day with a route for that day and the name of the licensed guide we would send.
You change what you want changed, then confirm, and we hold the guide and any vehicle for your dates.
How it went for other guests, in their own words, is on our reviews page.
It depends most on your language. In Istanbul, 3,815 guides are registered for English and only 17 for Hebrew, so a rare language needs the earliest message.
Short notice can work too: some guests reach out in the morning and meet their guide by lunch.
Search the guide’s name on TUREB’s public database: it shows the chamber, the foreign languages and whether the guide is active. On the day, a working guide wears the work card at chest height, as Türkiye’s 2024 regulation requires.
The Other Tour names your guide in the reply, so you can check them first. More checks are on how to find a trustworthy tour guide in Istanbul.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism keeps a public agency register: enter a licence number and it shows the agency and whether the licence is valid.

At The Other Tour every day is quoted on its own. The quote covers your guide’s day, and you will see entrance tickets, transport and meals as separate lines.

Not at the palaces or the Ministry’s museums. Under the National Palaces’ own rules, licensed guides wearing their badge enter Topkapı, its Harem and Dolmabahçe free.
At the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s museums and archaeological sites, licensed guides pass the turnstile on a guide card of their own.
Yes, once the group passes eight. The National Palaces’ rules, which cover Topkapı and Dolmabahçe, make headsets compulsory for a group of more than eight with a guide, and bar guides from narrating loudly indoors.
Tell The Other Tour how many you are and you will get a straight answer.

Only if the language is on the guide’s card. Under Türkiye’s 2024 guiding regulation, a guide may work only in the foreign languages printed on the work card.
