Step into a pool steeped in legend and history. Cleopatra’s Pool is not just a place to swim; it’s a journey through time and natural beauty.

Table of Contents

Introduction

Located in the heart of Hierapolis in Pamukkale, Cleopatra’s Pool is famous for its warm, mineral-rich waters and ancient submerged ruins. This unique attraction combines relaxation with the thrill of exploring remnants of a bygone era, making it a must-visit for travelers.

A Gift of Nature and History

Cleopatra’s Pool, also known as the Antique Pool, owes its name to legends that the pool was gifted to Cleopatra by Mark Antony. While this tale may be apocryphal, the pool’s enchanting beauty and historical significance make it easy to believe it was worthy of a queen.

  • Thermal Waters: The pool is fed by natural hot springs with a constant temperature of around 36°C (96.8°F). The water is rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate, believed to have therapeutic properties.
  • Ancient Ruins Beneath the Surface: Columns and fragments of marble, remnants of Hierapolis’s Roman structures, lie scattered under the water, creating a surreal swimming experience.

Why Visit Cleopatra’s Pool?

  • Therapeutic Benefits: The mineral-rich water is said to aid in relieving joint pain, muscle tension, and skin ailments.
  • Unique Swimming Experience: Where else can you float among ancient Roman ruins while soaking in warm, healing waters?
  • Stunning Surroundings: The pool is set amidst lush greenery, with views of Hierapolis’s ancient ruins and Pamukkale’s travertine terraces nearby.

  • Opening Hours: Summer (April-October): 08:00 AM – 07:00 PM. Winter (November-March): 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM
