Detailed Itinerary

Discover the rich narrative of Turkey’s history and landscapes on this immersive 8-day adventure that emphasizes Istanbul and Western Turkey. From the vibrant streets and monumental landmarks of Istanbul to the marble streets of Ephesus, every day reveals a new chapter of the country’s extraordinary past.

You’ll also marvel at the surreal white terraces of Pamukkale and explore the ancient spa city of Hierapolis, with plenty of time to soak in local culture, cuisine, and hospitality along the way.

Day 1 – Arrival in Istanbul

Your adventure begins as we meet you at Istanbul Airport and transfer you to your hotel in the historic Sultanahmet district – home to the city’s most treasured landmarks.

Depending on your arrival time, you may want to take a short walk through the charming streets, savor a cup of Turkish tea, or simply rest and prepare for the days ahead.

Overnight in Istanbul

Day 2 – Istanbul Old City Walking Tour

After breakfast, we set off on a full-day guided walking tour through the heart of the Ottoman and Byzantine empires.

We’ll step inside the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, a marvel of architecture and faith, and admire the intricate blue tiles of the Blue Mosque. In the ancient Hippodrome, imagine the roar of the crowds during chariot races as you see the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, and the German Fountain.

The Grand Bazaar awaits with its labyrinth of colorful stalls, perfect for finding unique treasures. We’ll then explore the Topkapi Palace, home to generations of Ottoman sultans, filled with dazzling treasures and secret courtyards. By the end of the day, you’ll have walked through centuries of history.

Overnight in Istanbul

Day 3 – Explore Modern Istanbul

Step into Istanbul’s contemporary rhythm today—where waterfront breezes, creative neighborhoods, and hidden history come together. Cruise along the Bosphorus for skyline views and a fresh perspective on the city’s layers.

Then wander Balat’s artsy backstreets, popping into independent cafés, colorful corners, and local workshops. For something unforgettable beneath the surface, head underground to the Basilica Cistern and see Istanbul’s ancient engineering glow in the half-light.

Overnight in Istanbul

Cross to Istanbul’s Asian side for a day that feels more local, laid-back, and delightfully full of character. Start in Kadıköy’s lively center—browse its markets, street food spots, and buzzy side streets—then stroll into the breezier, seaside vibe of Moda for cafés, parks, and waterfront views.

Afterward, head to Bağdat Avenue for a different side of the city: wide boulevards, shopping, and people-watching in a polished neighborhood setting.

Wrap up in Üsküdar, where mosques and ferry views set a timeless scene, and wander into Kuzguncuk’s charming lanes—old houses, tiny shops, and a village-like atmosphere that makes it easy to linger.

Overnight in Istanbul

Day 5 – The Full Extent of the Bosphorus

Spend the day tracing the Bosphorus from end to end by local ferry, with stops along both shores. We’ll cruise past palaces, waterfront neighborhoods, and fortresses as the city gradually opens toward the Black Sea.

After a seaside lunch up north, continue to Anadolu Kavağı and climb to Yoros Castle for panoramic views. On the return via the Asian side, pause in Kanlıca for its famous yogurt and finish in Üsküdar at sunset.

Overnight in Istanbul

Day 6 - Flight to Izmir & Ephesus Tour

4:30AM transfer to the airport and 6:45AM flight to Izmir. Private pick up from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport and drive down to Selçuk.

Step into one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world: Ephesus. Enter through the Magnesia Gate and stroll down marble streets lined with grand monuments – the Odeon, the Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan, and the impressive Great Theatre.

We’ll visit the House of Virgin Mary, a place of pilgrimage set in the tranquil Solmissos Mountains, and see the remnants of the Temple of Artemis, once a Wonder of the Ancient World.

Overnight in Kusadasi

Day 7 – Pamukkale & Hierapolis / Flight to Istanbul

Travel inland to witness the otherworldly beauty of Pamukkale, where mineral-rich waters have formed white terraces that cascade down the hillside. Explore the ancient spa city of Hierapolis, with its theatre, necropolis, and ancient baths.

If you wish, take a dip in the warm thermal waters of Cleopatra’s Pool before we head to Denizli Airport for our flight back to Istanbul. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.

Overnight in Istanbul

How Water Forged Istanbul’s Fate

Istanbul Beyond Myth

The usual narrative has long served as a neat explanation for Greek dominance in the region, suggesting that the site was chosen through divine guidance and superior Hellenic foresight. Yet, this perspective marginalizes the practical needs of early settlers and ignores the strategic observations of the Persian Empire, which offer a far more pragmatic and less mystical account of the city’s value.
