Kadıköy, on Istanbul’s Asian side, is one of the city’s most captivating nightlife districts, offering a unique blend of tradition, modernity, and artistry.

Introduction
More than just a place to grab a drink, Kadıköy is a cultural experience where everyone can find a place for themselves. From bustling bar-lined streets to intimate jazz clubs, lively meyhanes (traditional taverns), and scenic coastal hangouts, this neighborhood has it all, drawing both locals and travelers for an unforgettable night out.
I want to mention that as a college student in Kadıköy, this post is a little special for me. I mean, isn’t partying and clubbing what a college student does the most? After studying and hitting the library, of course.
A Mix of Tradition and Modernity
If we briefly talk about Kadıköy, it’s one of the best neighbourhoods that manage to combine Istanbul’s rich cultural history with a modern, laid-back vibe. Ottoman-era architecture -don’t expect a historical center like the old city when I say this- blends seamlessly with vibrant street art, and traditional meyhanes sit side-by-side with craft beer pubs and cocktail bars. This juxtaposition creates an inviting space where the past and present meet, where you can find people of all ages, making it a welcoming and diverse community for all.
Chill Bars to Start Your Night
Here are our recommendations for the best night life experience in Kadıköy, from chill bars to packed night clubs.
Muhit: This rustic pub offers the best craft beers in town, a really impressive selection of draft beers, and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a popular spot to wind down, surrounded by Kadıköy’s young locals. Their lovely garden in the back and affordable prices just add the cherry on top.
Zeytin café/bar: Mostly known for its spacious and amazing garden, which makes up the majority of the venue, Zeytin is the perfect place to enjoy a warm night. They serve as a café during the day and turn into a bar at 06:00 p.m.
Şarlo: Another great option for those looking for something rather more affordable. The interior design is inspired by industrial art, gives off a cozy and relaxing vibe. I say definitely check this place out, especially the cozy courtyard in the back.
Must-Try Meyhanes
Meyhanes, or traditional Turkish taverns, are a key part of Turkish nightlife where the beloved drink rakı is served alongside a variety of mezes (appetizers). Kadıköy is home to some of the best meyhanes, offering a perfect setting to experience the culture of sharing rakı and meze with friends.
Piraye Taş Plak Meyhane: A charming, nostalgic spot that combines traditional meyhane vibes with old Turkish records, creating an unforgettable ambiance.
Yeni Meyhane: Known for its welcoming atmosphere and delicious mezes, this meyhane offers a mix of classic flavors and a lively local scene.
Güneşin Sofrası: Located slightly off the main bar streets, this meyhane offers an intimate setting with thoughtfully prepared dishes and friendly service.
Live Music and Jazz Clubs
Ağaç Ev Kadıköy: Ağaç Ev is definitely a live music hub of Istanbul, known for its intimate atmosphere. This venue is a must-visit for live music lovers looking for a unique, alternative scene.
The Streets of Kadıköy: you don't need to be in a venue to enjoy a drink
One of the best ways to experience Kadıköy’s nightlife is simply by walking the streets and while walking the streets, you might as well drink on the streets and no, not in an alcoholic way. This is actually a tradition. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea as the street won’t provide you with the comfort of a bar but if you’re feeling adventurous, I definitely recommend trying this authentic experience. ”But where?” You might ask. Well, here it is:
Kadife Sokak (Bar Street): This street is the heart of Kadıköy’s nightlife, with a mix of bars, pubs, and meyhanes spilling into the sidewalks. It’s where people gather to enjoy music, drinks, and good company. Kadife Sokak is also the home of a unique tradition: People drinking on the street, standing and socializing, making it the perfect place to experience the authentic nightlife
Moda Sahil (Moda Coast): For a quieter evening, Moda Sahil offers a scenic spot to sit by the sea, listen to street performers, enjoy a drink, and watch the sunset over the Bosphorus. It’s such a Kadıköy classic. During the day, locals and visitors gather here to relax and calmy sip their drinks before heading back into Kadıköy’s vibrant streets. At night it becomes much more lively, filled up with people who want to enjoy their drinks in this airy and picnic-like atmosphere by the sea.
Dancing the Night Away
Here are some intimate venues where you can dance into the early hours preceding a walk of shame to wherever you live or sometimes even to an early class, in my case.
Bina: Bina’s three floors each offer a different vibe, and one floor serves as a club with a DJ, perfect for dancing. Whether you’re in the mood to relax with a drink or dance the night away, Bina has a spot for you.
Dorcok XL: One of Kadıköy’s larger venues, Dorock XL hosts live rock performances before transitioning into a DJ-led dance space.
Mecra: Although it’s the most popular gay club in Kadıköy, everyone is welcomed at Mecra. The first floor serves as a bar while the second and third floors serve as a club, different music on each floor. Also you can see me and the gang in mecra in the pictures above.
Late-Night Eateries: Refuel After Midnight
Kadıköy’s culinary scene extends well into the night, with places to satisfy cravings after hours or refuel during a meyhane crawl.
Pizza2Go: Serving freshly made pizzas with a variety of toppings, Pizza2Go is a favorite for those looking for a quick and satisfying late-night meal. Perfect for takeout or a casual bite. – Closes: 02:00 AM
Kimyon Kadıköy: A go-to for night owls, Kimyon Kadıköy offers an extensive menu of Turkish comfort food. – Open 24 hours
Reks Kokoreç: A staple of Kadıköy’s late-night eats, Reks Kokoreç offers one of the boldest street flavors in town. Known for its well-prepared kokoreç (grilled sheep intestines), this spot isn’t for everyone, as the taste can be intense and unique. But for adventurous food lovers, it’s definitely worth a try. -Closes: 04:00 AM
Ciğerci Hulusi: Serving some of Istanbul’s best liver dishes, Ciğerci Hulusi is perfect for late-night bites with its flavorful liver and grilled meats. -Closes: 02:00 AM
Sliceguy: For pizza lovers, this spot is a reliable choice for grabbing a slice to keep you fueled as you continue exploring the area’s nightlife. -Closes: 02:00 AM
