We visited a nonprofit summer school where kids learn to play musical instruments during The Other Tour in Istanbul.
Discovering Music for Peace Foundation
On July 3rd, The Other Tour ventured into the heart of Istanbul’s Edirnekapı neighborhood (very near Chora Church) to visit the remarkable Music for Peace Foundation. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing free music education to children and young people aged 7 to 25, particularly in one of the city’s most underprivileged areas. Their mission is to foster social cohesion and peace through music, believing that every child has the right to participate in the creation of art.

A Symphony of Opportunity and Community
The Music for Peace Foundation does more than just teach music—it builds orchestras and creates opportunities. With three-level orchestras (beginner, intermediate children’s orchestra, and advanced youth orchestra), vocal ensembles (choirs, vocal quartets, and quintets), and even an accordion ensemble, they offer young people a platform to explore their talents and develop life skills like discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
A Unique Collaboration: The Other Tour & Music for Peace
What sets The Other Tour apart from the rest is our commitment to authentic, transformative experiences, including school visits. Our collaboration with the Music for Peace Foundation allows our guests to connect with Istanbul on a deeper level. During our visit, we had the privilege of sitting in on rehearsals, witnessing firsthand the dedication of the young musicians and the inspiring work of their teachers. It’s moments like these that showcase the true spirit of Istanbul—its resilience, creativity, and community.
Be Part of the Magic
When you join The Other Tour, you’re not just a tourist—you’re a participant in the city’s living culture. Our school visits are a window into the real Istanbul, offering a rare opportunity to witness how grassroots initiatives like Music for Peace are transforming lives through art. You’ll leave not just with memories, but with a deeper understanding of how music can be a powerful force for social change.
