Before joining us, Şakir spent several years working for Turkish Airlines, an experience that allowed him to travel to 55 countries and absorb cultures from every corner of the globe. Whether it was sipping tea in Sri Lanka or bartering in Morocco, Şakir learned one essential truth: people matter most.
Three Eye-Opening Years in the USA
Before his career in aviation and tourism took off, Şakir spent three formative years living and working in the United States — doing everything from restaurant work to hospitality gigs to save money for his travels. During this time, he gained invaluable experience interacting with Westerners from all walks of life, sharpening not only his English but also his understanding of different cultural expectations, humor, and service standards. Those years taught him resilience, flexibility, and how to make people feel at home — lessons he now brings to every client he meets.
Where It All Began: Cheers Hostel & a Chance Encounter
Fethi (the founder) and Şakir first crossed paths in 2023, back when Şakir was managing the legendary Cheers Hostel chain in Istanbul. They hit it off immediately — one as a tour pioneer, the other as a hospitality pro with a contagious laugh and a heart of gold. Fast-forward to today, and Şakir is officially part of The Other Tour family.
Dad First, Always
Before his career in aviation and tourism took off, Şakir spent three formative years living and working in the United States — juggling jobs in restaurants, hotels, and event services to save up for future adventures. It wasn’t always easy, but it was deeply enriching. During this time, he developed a keen understanding of Western culture and communication styles, refining both his English and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Today, those communication skills are invaluable — especially when we welcome multi-generational families on our tours. While our licensed guides focus on delivering rich historical and cultural insight, Şakir often steps in to provide the human touch that makes a world of difference.
