Ten times the length of the iconic Istiklal Avenue on the European side of Istanbul, Bağdat Boulevard, stretching over 14 kilometers along Istanbul’s Asian side, is a dazzling mix of high-end shopping, gourmet dining, chic cafés, and vibrant street life.

Table of Contents

If you’re visiting Istanbul and want to experience the city’s most glamorous side, Bağdat Avenue (Bağdat Caddesi) should be at the top of your list. Often compared to Paris’ Champs-Élysées or Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive, Bağdat Avenue is where Istanbul’s elite and international visitors come to indulge in luxury.

For travelers looking to explore the best of Istanbul tourism, this avenue offers an unforgettable experience—whether you’re a fashion lover, a foodie, or simply someone who enjoys strolling through beautiful urban landscapes. And if you’re planning a tour in Istanbul, make sure to add Bağdat Avenue to your itinerary!

What Makes Bağdat Avenue so Significant?

Istanbul’s European side’s downtown is definitely Beyoglu‘s Istiklal Avenue but the Asian Side has its own strengths!

Bağdat Avenue has a rich history dating back to the Ottoman Empire. Its name comes from the historic Baghdad Road, which was part of the ancient trade route connecting Istanbul to Baghdad. Over time, it evolved from a simple thoroughfare into one of Istanbul’s most prestigious addresses.

Today, it represents the perfect blend of modern Istanbul and its historic past. Walking down Bağdat Avenue, you’ll see a mix of contemporary luxury boutiques, elegant Ottoman-era buildings, and lush green sidewalks—making it one of the most picturesque streets in the city.

Why Visit Bağdat Avenue?

Luxury Shopping at Its Finest

Bağdat Avenue is Istanbul’s fashion mecca, home to:
✓International designer boutiques – Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Dior, Hugo Boss
✓ Turkish luxury brands – Vakko, Beymen, Machka, Les Benjamins
✓ High-end jewelry & watches – Rolex, Cartier, Pandora
✓ Trendy concept stores – Flying Tiger, Stradivarius, Zara Home

Unlike crowded malls, Bağdat Avenue offers an open-air, leisurely shopping experience with wide sidewalks and stylish storefronts.

Brasserie Noir, Caddebostan

Gourmet Restaurants & Cafés

Food lovers will adore Bağdat Avenue’s culinary excellence, featuring:

Fern Café

Fine Dining:

  • Brasserie Noir (World cuisine)

  • Nazende Cadde (Modern Turkish & international)

  • Ali Ocakbaşı Suadiye (Upscale Turkish Kebabs)

Chic Cafés & Dessert Spots:

Tiftik Street Food (Caddebostan) – If you’re in the mood for something fun and unapologetically indulgent, walk down toward Caddebostan and hunt down Tiftik Street Food – the wildly popular concept by @chefoguzarda. Their over-the-top “pudding burgers” and creative street-food twists have become an Instagram phenomenon, and the Kadıköy–Caddebostan branch is perfect for a late-afternoon cheat meal after your Bağdat Caddesi stroll. You can get a feel for their vibe on Instagram.

  • Mado (Iconic and authentic Turkish ice cream & desserts)

  • Art Cafe (Unique desserts with gluten free options)

  • Fern Cafe (Try the baby pancakes!)

Evening Drinks & Nightlife:

  • Folks Kitchen&Coctail (High-end restaurant famous for its coctails-make sure to make a reservation beforehand-)

  • Şahane&Bahane Yeni Nesil Meyhane (a modern Turkish tavern with lively belly dancing shows)

A Perfect Strolling Destination

Unlike many parts of Istanbul, Bağdat Avenue is designed for walking, with:

  • Tree-lined sidewalks
  • Benches for resting
  • Boutique window-shopping
  • Instagram-worthy backdrops

Neighborhoods Along Bağdat Avenue

The avenue runs through six key districts, each with a unique character:

Kadıköy (Fenerbahçe end)

Kadıköy is where Bağdat Avenue begins, near the Fenerbahçe Stadium.

Suadiye

Upscale residential area with luxury apartments & cafés.

An Ottoman-era building in Erenköy

Erenköy

Known for historic Ottoman-era mansions.

Göztepe

A quieter, family-friendly section.

Caddebostan

Trendy, near the seaside promenade.

The Historic Bostanci Pier

Bostancı

The avenue’s endpoint, close to the Bostancı ferry terminal.

How to Get To Bağdat Avenue?

From the European Side

  • By Ferry: Take a scenic ride from Beşiktaş, Kabataş, or Eminönü to Kadıköy, then a 10-minute taxi to Bağdat Avenue.

  • By Metro/Marmaray: Take the Marmaray to Bostancı or Göztepe stations.

  • By Taxi: A 25-40 minute ride from Beyoglu or Sultanahmet.

From the Asian Side

  • Bus/Metro: Many IETT buses run along the avenue.

  • Walking: If you’re in Moda or Kadıköy, it’s a 25-minute walk to the start of Bağdat Avenue.

When to Visit?

For the perfect Bağdat Avenue experience, timing is everything. Mornings (10 AM – 12 PM) offer serene moments ideal for enjoying coffee at chic cafés before the crowds arrive – watch Istanbul awaken while sipping Turkish tea along this iconic boulevard.

Afternoons (1 PM – 5 PM) transform the avenue into a vibrant hub for luxury shopping at boutiques, paired with leisurely lunches at top Istanbul restaurants.

As dusk falls, evenings (6 PM onwards) unveil Bağdat Avenue’s sophisticated nightlife: dine, savor cocktails, or experience high-energy nights at sophisticated clubs – the perfect finale to your Istanbul luxury tour.
