Galataport in Istanbul is primarily a cruise port, but it’s much more than just a docking area for cruise ships. It’s a comprehensive redevelopment project that has revitalized a significant portion of the city’s waterfront.
Navigating Istanbul
Istanbul’s main cruise terminal is in Karaköy, conveniently located near major attractions. Public transport, taxis, and walking are viable options for getting around.
Walking to the oldtown
Free
The walk from Galataport to Sultanahmet is actually a pretty fun route. It would take about an hour with a slow pace while you get to see some of the most popular parts of the city along the Bosphorus.
Taking the public tram
30 TL with IstanbulCard
Taking the tram from the Tophane or Fındıklı station will get you to the oldtown Sultanahmet in about 10 minds. All you need is an IstanbulKart which can easily be purchased in the station or online.
Private Transport
From $20
Whether you take a cab or organize a private transfer, there’s usually traffic towards the oldtown but it should still take about 20 mins. The newly available water taxi service can also be considered at times.
