Located along the historic shores of the Golden Horn, the Rahmi M. Koç Museum offers a fascinating journey through the history of industry, transportation, and communication.

Table of Contents

Introduction

As Turkey’s first and only industrial museum, Rahmi Koc Museum showcases an impressive collection of artifacts that highlight human innovation and ingenuity. Founded by visionary businessman Rahmi M. Koç, this museum is a testament to the Koç family’s dedication to preserving history and promoting education. Whether you’re an engineering enthusiast, a history buff, or simply a curious traveler, this museum is a must-visit destination in Istanbul.

The Koç Family

The Koç family, one of Turkey’s most influential dynasties, has profoundly impacted the country’s economy and cultural development. Founded by Vehbi Koç, the Koç Group is Turkey’s largest conglomerate, and his son, Rahmi M. Koç, expanded this legacy with a passion for preserving industrial history. His visionary leadership and personal collection of historical artifacts laid the foundation for the Rahmi M. Koç Museum, blending his love for engineering and heritage.

“A significant part of my life revolves around three things: education, healthcare, and museology. As you can see, I’m a businessman, but my life is dedicated to three investments that bring no financial return.”

Rahmi M. Koç

The Museum’s Past

The Rahmi M. Koç Museum is housed in three historically significant locations along the Golden Horn: the Lengerhane Building, a 12th-century foundry; the Hasköy Shipyard, a 19th-century maritime hub; and an open-air display area for large-scale exhibits. Since its founding in 1994, the museum has become a cultural icon, celebrating industrial achievements within these beautifully restored settings.

About us

We offer a unique, immersive travel experience across Turkey — not just Istanbul's lesser-known corners, but also the valleys of Cappadocia, the ruins of Ephesus, and the coastlines of Antalya and Bodrum, engaging guests in cultural activities like local home visits, market explorations, and Bosphorus cruises.

What we specialize in, above all, is matching each client with the right professional guide for wherever they're headed in Turkey — though if we're being honest, our roster is still concentrated mostly in Istanbul. As of August 2026, that roster stands at 54 professional tour guides, each one personally vetted rather than pulled from a directory. Most of what we arrange are daily and multi-day private tours, guided primarily in English, with guides available in other languages on request.

We also provide a full range of wheelchair-assisted guided tours, custom itineraries, and specialized tours covering historical, cultural, and niche interests like Jewish heritage, vegan spots, and bird-watching — now paired with a guide roster that reaches Ankara, the Black Sea, and the wider Mediterranean region. We also offer transportation services with professional guides for a more personalized and flexible experience.

Newsletter

The Other Tour is an immersive way to experience Istanbul and the rest of Turkey, led by licensed local guides who take you beyond the tourist spots into the lived culture and quiet corners of Cappadocia, Antalya, Ephesus, Bodrum, and the Mediterranean. We also build personalized travel planning, private tours, and custom itineraries — crafted around what you’re actually curious about, in any region of the country.
