When a tour guide knows every street, every flavor, and every hidden gem of a city—not from a textbook but from the rhythm of real life—you know you’re in the best of hands. Meet Kardelen Uyar, a dynamic and passionate licensed tour guide whose journey through Turkey’s diverse regions and rich history has shaped an extraordinary guiding experience.

Table of Contents

From Academia to Authentic Experience

A graduate of Gazi University’s Travel Management and Tourism Guidance Department, Kardelen brings both academic rigor and street-smart insight to the table. With a license to guide across the Aegean, Marmara, Eastern Anatolia, and Central Anatolia regions, she is not just a local expert, but a storyteller of an entire nation.

While her professional guiding career began three years ago, she has spent over eight years in various corners of the tourism industry, building a 360° understanding of hospitality, logistics, and—most importantly—people.

4 out 7 Regions of Turkey

Licensed to Guide Across Türkiye

Kardelen is not just an Istanbul expert. With an official guiding license covering four of Türkiye’s seven regions—Marmara, Aegean, Eastern Anatolia, and Central Anatolia—he is equipped to take travelers on unforgettable journeys across some of the country’s most iconic and hidden historical treasures.

Marmara Region

The Marmara Region, home to some of Türkiye’s most historically significant sites, is one of Kardelen’s specialties. As a licensed guide in the region, she expertly leads travelers through its fascinating mix of ancient ruins, Ottoman landmarks, and vibrant cultural hubs.

Some of the must-visit destinations where Furkan can guide you include:

  • Istanbul – The city where East meets West, with its world-famous landmarks like Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern, and the Grand Bazaar.

  • Bursa – The first capital of the Ottoman Empire, known for its stunning mosques, thermal baths, and the legendary Iskender kebab.

  • Edirne – The former Ottoman capital, famous for the Selimiye Mosque, the Kırkpınar oil-wrestling festival, and its rich architectural heritage.

  • Balıkesir & Antandros – Dive into ancient history with a visit to the ruins of Antandros, a hidden gem for archaeology lovers.

  • Iznik (Nicaea) – A city steeped in Christian history, where the First and Seventh Ecumenical Councils took place, shaping early Christian doctrine.

Whether it’s tracing the footsteps of emperors, exploring Ottoman palaces, or experiencing the region’s culinary delights, Furkan ensures an immersive and unforgettable journey through the Marmara Region.

Aegean Region

The Aegean Region, home to some of the most breathtaking coastlines and ancient sites in the world, is another area where Kardelen expertly guides travelers.

Color-coded map of Turkey highlighting the Aegean RegionKey highlights include:

  • Ephesus – Walk through one of the best-preserved ancient cities of the Roman world, home to the Library of Celsus and the Temple of Artemis.
  • Pergamon – A spectacular ancient city with a legendary acropolis, the steepest theater of the ancient world, and the Asklepion healing center.
  • Troy – The legendary city of Homer’s Iliad, where myth and reality collide.
  • Didyma, Miletus & Priene – Three of the most important ancient Ionian cities, filled with grand temples, theaters, and historical intrigue.
  • Seven Churchs of Revelation like Smyrna, Thyatira and others.
  • Bodrum (Halicarnassus) – Visit the site of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and explore Bodrum Castle.

Eastern Anatolia Region

Türkiye’s Eastern Anatolia is a realm of ancient legends, breathtaking landscapes, and rich cultural heritage.

Kardelen leads travelers to:

  • Ani – A mystical ancient city of Armenian ruins, echoing tales of bygone empires.
  • Mount Ararat – The towering, storied peak, fabled to shelter Noah’s Ark amidst its snowy summit.
  • Van – A vibrant city on Turkey’s largest lake, offering a fusion of history and local traditions.
  • Akdamar Island – Home to the exquisite 10th-century Armenian Church of the Holy Cross, a jewel of medieval architecture.
  • Ishak Pasha Palace – A magnificent fortress blending Persian, Ottoman, and Armenian influences, set against a dramatic mountain backdrop.

Central Anatolian Region

The heart of Turkey, Central Anatolia, is where ancient history, early Christianity, and stunning landscapes come together. Kardelen’s tours here include:

  • Cappadocia – Explore the fairy-tale landscapes, underground cities, rock-cut churches, and breathtaking hot air balloon rides.

  • Ankara – Türkiye’s capital, home to the Anatolian Civilizations Museum and the Mausoleum of Atatürk.

  • Konya – The spiritual heart of Türkiye, where the great Sufi poet Rumi lived and taught.

  • Hattusa – The capital of the Hittite Empire, featuring impressive ruins and hieroglyphic inscriptions.

  • Gordion – The ancient city where Alexander the Great famously cut the Gordian Knot.

A Deep Love for Food, Culture, and the Human Connection

What makes Kardelen truly stand out is a deep, almost astrological connection to gastronomy—yes, she’s a Taurus, and yes, she knows the best hidden culinary spots in Istanbul. From hole-in-the-wall meyhanes to legendary dessert joints, she’s mapped the city by flavor.

🔹 Gastronomy tours filled with passion, flavor, and personality
🔹 Expert-led explorations of Istanbul’s Old City and its role in world history
🔹 Guided experiences around the Bosphorus, the Princes’ Islands, historical churches, and scenic walking routes
🔹 Personal knowledge of the best photo spots—and the ability to capture great shots of you while you enjoy the moment

A Fun Moment in “The Office”

One of Kardelen’s most amusing memories took place in Sultanahmet Square, which she fondly calls “my office.” As she warmly greeted several fellow guides in the area—something quite common among guides who work regularly in the heart of the Old City—a guest in her group jokingly assumed she was famous.

As the laughter spread and Kardelen played along, the entire group began taking turns snapping photos with her. Their playful energy caught the attention of a nearby national TV crew, who genuinely thought she was a well-known influencer and even approached her for an interview.

It was a light-hearted, spontaneous moment that perfectly reflects Kardelen’s magnetic presence and the joyful energy she brings to every tour. 😄🎥

The Place She’ll Never Tire Of: Hagia Sophia

Having led tours across Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia, Kardelen still finds herself in awe each time she steps into Hagia Sophia. It’s not just about bricks and domes—it’s about the layered epochs of humanity etched into one sacred structure. And that’s what she brings to her guests: a time-traveling perspective, a chance to view iconic sites through the lens of the era they were born in.

A Guide Who Becomes a Friend

Kardelen doesn’t believe in formal, distant tours. Her philosophy is simple: tours should feel like a shared adventure between friends. She goes beyond information—she connects, listens, and adapts. Her guests often say it doesn’t feel like they hired a guide. It feels like they made a friend in Istanbul.

Why You’ll Love Touring with Kardelen Uyar

🔹 Licensed regional guide across four major Turkish regions
🔹 8+ years in tourism, including 3 years of professional guiding
🔹 Specialist in food, history, and immersive cultural storytelling
🔹 Passionate about photography—knows the best spots and angles
